I want to introduce the idea of not eating and how that might be good for us.
I just completed my fourth 7 day dry fast. Whoa, no joke. A dry fast means no food or water for 7 days. And no, you don’t die. This anhydrous medical therapy was first developed by two Russians: Dr. L.A. Shchennikov and Dr. Sergei Filonov, and was further modified by Dr. August Dunning, a research scientist and NASA engineer. He has written two books, The Phoenix Protocol, where he outlines the fasting protocol and recommended nutraceuticals, and Neogenesis, where he describes how to feed cells and build muscle. His main goal is life extension. It isn't mine. I want to live well and healthy in this fun avatar God gave me.
I have come to believe that we eat WAY too much and move WAY too little. This is obvious if you look around. Remember how trim we all looked in movies from the 70's and earlier? I am not a 'size-ist' and I don't care how you look and how much weight you are carrying around. I bring this up because some of us WANT to be trimmer, and that is our choice. Also, medical studies do suggest that at- and under-weight people live longer. When we talk of co-morbidity regarding health issues, usually the second morbidity is obesity.
What it looks like
You simply do not eat or drink anything for 7 days. No coffee, tea, water, nothing. You will live, be sure of it. You are not hungry and thirsty during this fast. There are a few hacks to make the adventure more comfortable, such as rinsing your mouth with water and spitting it out when it gets very dry on days 6 and 7. Dunning offers a good discussion on why this is different from and healthier than a water fast. For more details, you really need to get Dr. Dunning's book on Amazon, and watch his YouTube videos: The Phoenix Protocol.
Dunning recommends you start with a 24 hour dry fast to see how it goes. This is what we call a soft dry fast, meaning you can get in water all you want: hot tubs, showers, baths. Then you can extend to two days, three days, and do a 5 or 7 day dry fast when or if you are ready. He also suggests that you can do well by a number of shorter dry fasts each month, and that the effects are cumulative. What you miss in not going all the way to 7 is the stem cell generation. But you get all the other powerful effects with these shorter dry fasts. Me, I just go full retard and do 7 days.
What it does
The body begins autophagy right away, which means it breaks down senescent cells and wonky big old proteins for food. The body also lives on all the fat. The body breaks down large triglycerides into glycerol and ….water! So this process is a large clean up of sickly cells and a destruction of fat deposits. The body makes endogenous water as it breaks down weak cells and creates water from fat digestion. There may be a store of water in the fascia as well, but I'm not sure about that. The body begins healing the DNA by repairing the nucleotides and removing methyl groups. This means your DNA can correctly code for more of its proteins. Telomeres, the DNA 'endcaps,' are strengthened, so the cells divide more times and you live longer. Stem cells are released all over the body and you get all new cells. The chances for body healing and weight loss are incredible.
Who doesn't want that?
Challenges
As I said, YOU ARE NOT HUNGRY OR THISTY. Your challenges come from both fatigue and sometimes sleeplessness. And boredom. Your body needs to adjust to the chance to heal itself (finally!) very deeply. If you had injuries in the past, you may feel pain or aches in those areas. You may long for water, but it is more of a thought, like ”water would be really nice right now.” But it's not a hangry-the-body-must-drink or it will die.
Spiritual Aspect
Doing a dry fast with an intention is a good idea. As the fast progresses, it becomes just you and the Creator. Time slows down and this connection can grow more powerful. I ask for all kinds of spiritual help and talk to God a lot. And I get answers in the forms of ideas and insight and comfort! I begin to appreciate again the simple stuff, like water!
Folks report coming out of dry fast more intuitive and more personally powerful. I have heard more than one person speak about being up-leveled and ready for more adventures and more of their best life.
Just an idea!

Very helpful explanation. I have that book as well and had good intentions but only lasted 3 days soft dry fast.
I have a husband and it’s hard to balance the feeding schedules hahaha. He has a very physical job but does do intermittent fasting using the 6 hour eating window. That means that we have to plan ahead Sunday cook and prep day for the week. I was keto for quite a while but now use a balanced approach not restricting just eating in a window. I would rather fast than restrict the variety of foods. Thank you for sharing your experience.
